Frequently Asked Questions

What type of fly screen material do you use?

We use a Micro Mesh which is a PVC coated filament woven base cloth mesh fabric specially designed for the Australian camping environment.

Micro Mesh is recommended for Tent and Swag Screens due to the woven construction which restricts sand flies and smaller insects from passing through.

Micro Mesh has an extremely good strength to weight ratio in both directions.

How long will I have to wait to receive my product?

Due to it being a custom product made to fit your specific size set up all fly screens are made to order. Products are usually made within 2-3 days of your order and then shipped, however we do allow up to 1 week before shipping in some cases. If you need yours urgently please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate you!

How do I know my car has pinch weld seal that comes off?

Most cars have pinch weld seal as this is most commonly used by manufacturers. The seal sits over where the metal is pinched together. To see if your vehicles comes off simply pull on the seal. It may be a bit stiff. You might also think you see some glue but this would be from between the pinch weld and not glue for the seal. The main thing you want to check is that there are no clips that holds the seal on. Again, majority of set ups will not have these as it is more expensive for manufacturers, so most manufacturers will go with the usual pinch weld seal due to lower cost

How do I install the custom fly screen on my set up?

Please refer to our "How to Install" page for a step by step walk through video. You do not need a lot of skill or DIY experience to install the fly screen. If you are still unsure please don't hesitate to contact us!

What do I need to install the fly screen?

To help install the fly screen you will need:

- marker pen

- Bull dog clips or clamps

- Tape Measure

- Stanley Knife

- Maybe a Blunt Knife to help get the Seal off and maybe a rubber hammer to get the seal back on

Can I remove the fly screen after it is installed?

While the fly screen can be removed after you have installed it, we do not recommend it as it will be more difficult to re install due to it being cut down exactly to size.

Do I need to screw or glue to fly screen on?

No, the fly screen is attached under the pinch weld seal which means you don’t need to damage or mark your vehicle.

Why do you use zips instead of magnets or Velcro adhesive strips?

When designing the flys green for our set up, we originally used magnets. However we quickly realised that the magnets were very fiddly when going in and out of the set up. The adhesive that sticks to the car also did not last long in the Aussie heat and was soon peeling off. The zips also allow the fly screen to roll up away nice and neat when not in use.

Are the fly screens completely sealed?

While three edges are completely sealed the bottom edge is not sealed. Due to each set up having a different edge at the bottom (e.g vans with sliding doors or wagons with drop down tailgate) there was no easy solution for this.

How do I get the correct measurements for my set up?

When purchasing one of our custom fly screens it's important we receive the correct length and width of your canopy to ensure a proper fit. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do it:

  1. Determine which side is the height and which is the width.

  2. Measure the width of your set up by using a tape measure to measure from one end to the other. Be sure to measure from the outside edge of the pinch weld seal (rubber around the opening) to the outside edge of the opposite frame. This will give you an accurate measurement of the width.

  3. if you are measuring for a wagon or van please make sure to give both the smallest width and widest width of the opening in your set up so the fly screen has a great fit. Please refer to the photos below of the three measurements required
  4. Measure the height of your set up by using a tape measure to measure from the top to the bottom. Again, be sure to measure from the outside edge of the pinch weld to the outside edge of the opposite sides pinch weld. Or if you would like the fly screen to stop above draws measure to the top of where the draws or cupboards start. This will give you an accurate measurement of the total height.

  5. Please refer to the images below for reference. If you are still unsure please don't hesitate to contact us!

Measurements

The top two images show the correct place to start your measurements from by hooking your tape measure onto the pinch weld.

The bottom left image shows the canopy length measurement is 1770mm and the right image shows the height measurement to be 770mm.
